Penicuik Youth Band was formed in July 2008 and is linked to Penicuik Silver Band which has been in existence since 1835.  Penicuik Youth Band currently consists of the six school-age members of Penicuik Silver Band and the aim is to create within three years a full-sized brass band (25 members) composed of children under the age of 18 from the Penicuik area.

Penicuik Youth Band will perform concerts in local primary schools, will take part in contests against other youth bands and will encourage members to sit Trinity College Grade Exams.  Additionally the band members will be encouraged to play with School and Midlothian ensembles and to attend musical events such as concerts and contests.
